The Eagles win the EWHL for the second time

It became clear soon after the first games that the team would have a significant say in the awarding of the title this year, but things could have almost been tight in the title round in the end. After the victory in Budapest on Saturday, Fredy Püls' team knew that two points on Sunday would be enough to bring the coveted EWHL Cup to Bolzano for the second time after 2014. Bratislava really wanted to preserve its chance of third place, because it was already clear before the game that Salzburg would at least win the silver medal.

In the Vladimir Dzurilla Hall in the Slovakian capital, a fast-paced game developed in which the Eagles took the lead after just 22 seconds with captain Chelsea Furlani following an ideal pass from Nicole Renault. A little too early, as coach Fredy Püls presciently notes. Bratislava uses the first power play to equalize, just two seconds before the end of the penalty time. However, the home team cannot use the second penalty against the Eagles. One second before the end of the first period, Melissa Piacentini shot the Eagles back into the lead. The referees discuss the goal a bit, but ultimately give it.

In the second half of the game, the Eagles South Tyrol extended their lead to 3-1. Beatrix Larger scores in the majority after a perfect pass from Eleonora Dalprà. In the final third the encounter becomes really exciting. First, Bratislava comes close to 3:2 with a double majority. Shortly afterwards, Chelsea Furlani scored the – supposedly reassuring – 4:2. A little more than a minute before the end of the game, another strange penalty against Eleonora Dalprà gave Bratislava the opportunity to score the next goal, which they did. Bratislava also took the goalkeeper off the ice. Only 45 seconds before the end of the game, Bratislava even scored the equalizer. It goes into stoppage time in which there are some top-class chances on both sides, which are defused by the two goalkeepers. There is a shut out in which the Eagles show themselves confidently. Melissa Piacentini and Chelsea Furlani safely convert their penalties, while on the other side goalie Daniela Klotz remains a two-time winner. The third penalty is unnecessary and helmets, sticks and gloves can finally fly into the air in relief.

After an outstanding season in which they led the table almost throughout, the Eagles are crowned champions of the European Women's Hockey League for the second time since 2014.

The Eagles win the EWHL for the second time

The Eagles Bozen had not lost a game in the EWHL since October 22, 2016. Yesterday they crowned themselves on the penultimate matchday of the championship.
