However, the first meeting between the two teams in more than 27 years was not a good one: the scoreboard in the ice wave, a relic from days gone by, did not cooperate and left both the cracks on the ice and the spectators for the entire duration of the game in uncertainty. Although the stadium announcer stepped in with constant time announcements, it would be extremely difficult for the operators to adapt the 24-year-old display cube under the stadium roof to today's requirements - especially since it has repeatedly caused problems in the past.

Extremely strong in the power play

About the game: The Foxes initially continued where they left off in the away win in Salzburg. They were extremely focused and kept putting pinpricks in their attack. Daniel Glira completed one of these offensive actions in the 16th minute to make it 1-0. The 23-year-old from Toblach was there after being stabbed and didn't miss his first goal of the season. The HCB stayed on the trigger until the third siren.

After the break, however, the tide turned. Last year's KHL club now took the reins and tried to exploit the existing gaps in Bolzano's defense. But he failed either due to his own inability or to Marcel Melichercik, who caused tongues to click in the stands with an incredible save in the duel with Samson Mahbod. The goalie seems to be slowly regaining his old strength. However, Mike Angelidis still owes a lot, although he caused a stir a short time later with a shot that hit the outside post. He provided a foretaste of the second Bozen goal, which followed in the 37th minute: With a double majority, Travis Oleksuk took advantage of the space available to him and pushed in unhindered to make it 2-0.

Halmo delights the fans

Anyone who thought it would be a sure-fire success for the HCB was far wrong. The White and Reds remained mentally in the dressing room after the break and paved the way for the Croatians to score. They combined unhindered by the HCB defense and finally made it 1:2 through Michael Bouvin. Bozen needed a few minutes to recover, but then hit back hard in the power play with league top scorer Austin Smith. He was there after a rebound and pushed the disc past Zagreb goalkeeper Kroselj into the goal. The 3:1 definitely put Bozen on the winning path. The icing on the cake was provided by high-quality technician Mike Halmo, who offered an artistic performance five minutes before the end: he sensitively lifted the puck over an opponent on the halfway line, stormed towards the goal alone and finished with a shot under the crossbar. The approximately 2.600 spectators in the ice wave acknowledged his action with a standing ovation.

With this victory, HC Bozen makes a big leap into eighth place. He seems prepared for the duel on Sunday in the Eiswelle against table neighbors Villach. Then the scoreboard will probably enjoy the Foxes game again.
