The Foxes play cat and mouse with Dornbirn

What HC Bozen delivered in the home game against the sixth in the league on Friday evening was a true offensive spectacle. For almost 60 minutes, the Foxes thrilled the audience with fast, aggressive power ice hockey. They finally seem to be gaining momentum before the most important phase of the season.

Bolzano as if from a single source It started in the first third with non-stop one-way ice hockey. Travis Oleksuk found the first top-class chance, and a short time later Mike Halmo made it 1-0 with a shorthander. He made DEC goalie Juha Rinne look old in one-on-one situations. A little later it was Oleksuk and Halmo again with a bang on the post who could have increased the score to 2-0. The Bulldogs were still well served with the narrow deficit after 20 minutes.

Bolzano continued to dictate the game after the first break, but were lucky when the guests failed to hit the goalpost shortly after the restart. Pekka Tuokkola in the Bolzano box was already beaten. Dornbirn didn't have more to counter Bozen's offensive run than this finish and a few extremely hard checks. This continued successfully halfway through the game: Chris DeSousa was precisely served by Mike Angelidis in the power play and netted dry. Exactly five minutes later, Vorarlberg were again punished for their tough style of play when Angelo Miceli directed a sharp pass from Daniel Glira into the net in the next power play to make it 3-0.

Dornbirn only scores in the final phase

Only in the last third, when Bozen let the reins slide a bit, did Dornbirn become dangerous with a blueliner from ex-HCB crack Sean McMonagle. This hit the post. Then it was the 2014 champion's turn again: DeSousa simply took heart from the blue line, goalie Rinne couldn't control the powerful shot and the score was 4-0. This time, however, the black and whites from the “Ländle” reacted promptly and restored the old three-goal deficit with a goal from James Arniel. However, it was no longer exciting. Not even when Stefan Häußle reduced the score to 2:4 two minutes before the end. He benefited from a mishap by Tuokkola and defender Matt Tomassoni. After that it was over and Bolzano's second victory in a row was wrapped up.

With this “threesome”, the Foxes push Villacher SV, who were defeated 2-7 in Zagreb, from third-to-last place in the table. On Sunday both teams will meet in a direct duel in Carinthia.

HCB Südtirol Alperia continues to make progress in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League. Just two days after the win against Salzburg, the people of Bolzano swept the Dornbirn Bulldogs 4-2 out of the ice wave filled with 3.000 spectators. They climb to tenth place in the table.
