The Foxes strengthen their defense with a lot of routine

Luoma, 193 cm x 94 kg, is a two-way defender and brings a lot of international experience. His strengths are an excellent shot and a great overview of the game.

His curriculum speaks volumes: He grew up in the youth team of the discos in Finland and made the jump to the Liiga in the ranks of JYP e Tappara in the 1998/99 season, where he also won a championship. In 2002 he was drafted in the NHL in the sixth round as a 181st pick. Luoma played three games (one assist) with the Edmonton Oilers, and spent the rest of the season in the AHL with the Toronto Roadrunners, where he scored 65 points in 26 games. After a short stint in Canada, his long career began in the Swedish SHL with the Malmö Redhawks, Linköping and HV71. The 2007/2008 season was particularly successful when he won the SHL with HV71 and was named the best defender of the year with the most points and assists. In the same year he won his second bronze medal with the Finnish national team at the World Championships. After a season in the KHL (2009/10) in the ranks of HK Atlant, he returned to Sweden and then played again in Finland. Luoma started the 2016/17 season with a try-out in Allsvenskan at MODO Hockey and has now landed in the EBEL with Bozen. Overall, Luoma has scored 211 points in the SHL and 175 in the Liiga.

The new white and red defender will meet an old friend in Bolzano, Ryan Glenn, with whom he played at JVP in Finland at the end of the 2015/16 season. Luoma could already take part in his new team's away game in Hungary against Fehervar, but he will definitely be on the ice in the match against Ljublijana. At the moment, no player will be leaving HCB Südtirol, which means there will be a turnover within the team, which is why coach Tom Pokel decides on a case-by-case basis who has to go to the stands.

Reliability and experience for the white-red defense. HCB Südtirol Alperia has become active in the transfer market and has signed the 40-year-old Finn Mikko Luoma.
