The Foxes dismantle Znojmo, but continue to run after him

What was missing from an all-round successful evening was the support in the other arenas. Bozen passed their next opponent, the Graz 99ers, but remains in eighth place behind Zagreb and Dornbirn with one round to go. The chances of direct playoff qualification on Sunday are therefore slim.

Halmo dances them all out

Back to what happened in the Eiswelle: The White-Reds pressed the accelerator vehemently from the start, but were met with lively resistance from the Czechs in the starting phase. It was only when the score was double that the spell was broken: Alex Petan made it 15-1 from close range in the 0th minute. Then Mike Halmo's big show began. In the 18th minute he prepared Travis Oleksuk's 2-0 in a remarkable way. Two turns of the pointer later, the NHL-proven Canadian did everything himself, danced his way through the Orli defense and made it 3-0. At the HCB everything ran smoothly.

Smith's first goal in three months

Only shortly after the first break did the home team finally set the course for victory. This time, returnee Smith was able to celebrate. He was there in his usual goalscoring style when a shot from Chris DeSousa bounced off the boards back in front of the goal and he just had to press it in. It was Smith's first league goal since October 21st. The opponent back then? Of course, Orli Znojmo. The Foxes were then able to demonstrate their power play qualities again. When a Czech was stewing in the “cooler”, Petan put Mike Angelidis in the spotlight, who made it 5-0. In the 36th minute, the HCB defense showed itself to be inattentive for once: Marek Spacek took advantage of the space available to him and pushed the disc past goalie Pekka Tuokkola into the net. It didn't take long for the home team to respond, but DeSousa's shot was stopped by the post.

Znojmo reacts too late

In the final section the same pace continued. Bozen kept the target in its own ranks and then suddenly pulled the reins again and again. This was also the case in the 46th minute, when Matt Tomassoni took heart on the blue line and drove the puck into the net. Guest goalie Tomas Halasz didn't look good. On the other side, Tuokkola had to reach behind himself a little later. However, it was his own man, Travis Oleksuk, who defeated him. The HCB striker got the hard rubber disc on his shin and from there it rolled over the line. Five minutes before the end, the second-to-last team was able to celebrate once again when Ryan Olsen hit the mark with a blueliner. In return, Angelo Miceli was stopped by a super save from Halasz. The final point was finally scored by the Foxes, or rather by Alex Petan, who hit the corner in the power play a minute before the end. After that it was over and the next Bolzano victory was secured.
