The week of truth

Thanks to the 3-2 win against Cortina, the Rittner Buam are firmly in the quarter-finals. Now the Wipptal Broncos and HC Gherdëina also want to go there. The starting point in the respective series is similar. This means: A promotion to the round of the last eight is definitely possible, but it won't be a sure-fire success.

Because they lost their last game in the second round against EC Bregenzerwald, the Wildpferde will not face HC Gherdëina, but the Fassa Falcons. This suits the white and blue team well, especially since they had to admit defeat against the Furies in seven of the last eight duels. The record against Fassa looks different: Although the Trentino team won the last direct duel, the Broncos had previously won nine (!) times in a row. In the current season, the away team won 4:2 and 5:4. Although Fassa has lost all of its last nine games in the Master Round, a close best-of-three series can be expected. Duel of the bombers There are no clues in the duel between HCG and Bregenzerwald. This has never happened before in the current season due to corona-related game cancellations. In the series in which the Furies enjoy home advantage, two of the most dangerous strikers in the league face each other. What Brad McGowan has represented for the Ladins for years, Roberts Lipsbergs has been for the ECB. The Latvian has the best points average in the league - and is therefore the man to pay particular attention to from an HCG perspective. At the same time, McGowan is the most accurate player in the league with 29 goals. Pure excitement is therefore inevitable.

While the pre-playoffs are just beginning in the AlpsHL, the quarterfinal series in the IHL is coming to an end. The Unterland Cavaliers and SV Kaltern could make the semi-finals clear with another win on Tuesday against Varese and the Toblach Icebears respectively. The chances of this happening are good, as they are tackling this project in their own stadium. Pergine (against Alleghe) and Fiemme (against Como) also want to achieve this at the same time.

The Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL) is finally entering the hot phase this week. In the pre-playoffs, the Wipptal Broncos and HC Gherdëina are fighting for promotion to the quarter-finals. Even one class below, in the Italian Hockey League (IHL), things get down to business.
