The Wolves win the Lega Cup – the play-off pairings are set

In this second championship phase, today was the last matchday, which gave the Wolves their first victory in the Eiswelle in the regular season after 17 years. This victory was doubly valuable because it meant that the Pusterers also won the Lega Cup. Meanwhile, Fassa defeated Ritten 5-3 and jumped onto the play-off train, just like Asiago, which had the upper hand in Vipiteno after extra time. Cortina put Pontebba in its place, while Valpellice celebrated a resounding win against Alleghe, which was already thinking about Saturday's play-off.

For the 162nd time, HC Bozen and the wolves from Pustertal faced each other in the traditional South Tyrolean derby on Thursday. And there was a lot at stake in this game, namely first place in the Master Round and the Lega Cup. The Foxes needed a win within regular time while the guests needed a draw after 60 minutes. The White-Reds could count on Marco Insam again, but had to give up Meyers. The Wolves were missing Helfer and Magnan, but the Black and Yellows were able to bring in Scandella and Jensen. In the first third, both teams were very cautious, with slight advantages for the HCP, who put Bozen under pressure. The Talferstädters, on the other hand, tried to capitalize on counterattacks, but without creating any significant chances. Persson and Di Casmirro had the few opportunities from close range, or Kelly with a powerful shot, but Matt Zaba was on the post. Strömberg only had to intervene once when Bernard shot after a counterattack. With a goalless draw we went to the first halftime tea. After the break, Edwardson, who had injured his shoulder, did not return to the ice. In the third period, Oberrauch secured a preliminary decision with a score of 3-1. Bozen showed the expected reaction, but failed with Sharp hitting the post and Knackstedt outnumbered. After that, Cullen could have made the decision, but instead Bozen scored the goal they were longing for with Sharp, who successfully deflected a Rogers shot. Strömberg survived the Talferstadt team's next period of pressure unscathed before Oberrauch made the decision with a 4-2 win into the empty goal.

The Ladiners Locatin and Margoni had to lead the way, while Greg Holst – coach of the “Buam” – was able to draw on the full potential. The home team clearly got off to a better start, because after 176 seconds, captain Iori passed the puck to Tomas Chrenko, who gave Krizan the disadvantage. After that, Graham had the equalizer on the board, but instead of putting the puck in Fassa's goal, the guests made it 2-0 a little later through Dan Sullivan (11.10). Ritten was by no means shocked by the second goal, but continued to try to score - efforts that were not crowned with success. After halftime, Trevor Kell shocked the guests with his third goal when just 37 seconds had been played. The die seemed cast. But Ritten got himself back into business with a Farynuk-Blight one-two midway through the first period. Afterwards, Pichler even had the chance to equalize, but Doyle outgrew himself. After four minutes in the third period, Dan Tudin was able to equalize and Ritten had hope for the first time. Hope, which Chrenko, who was in a great mood, nipped in the bud with a double strike within less than two minutes.
