The Wolves win the 2011 Supercup

Exactly 171 days after the nerve-wracking sixth final game, the 2011 Italian Supercup saw a repeat of last season's final between HC Pustertal and Supermercati Migross Asiago on Wednesday evening. The “Wolves” fought for the Supercup for the first time, while the team from Veneto has already won the trophy once. At the first official game of the 2011/2012 season in Bruneck, the last two newcomers Magnan and Ling made their debut for the hosts, while Asiago coach John Tucker had to do without Grieco, Zamparo and Pitton. Intranuovo played for this, and its move to EV Bozen will be completed shortly.

In the well-attended Leitner Solar Arena, both teams set a high pace from the start. After 8:25, Asiago was rewarded with the first goal of the 2011/2012 ice hockey season: Marchetti started a solo effort from the blue line, let Willleit get out and beat Strömberg with a well-placed shot. Only a short time later, Bentivoglio skilfully put himself in the spotlight, but he missed the chance to make it 2-0 for the reigning Italian champions. In return, Hofer narrowly missed the opponent's goal. But after 11:34 the Bruneck team finally managed to equalize through David Ling, who used a pass from Scandella to make it 1-1. Both teams then shifted gears. HCP goalkeeper Strömberg was only challenged several times in the final phase of the first third.

In the middle period, the HCP took the reins again, appearing dangerously in front of the Asiago goal several times. Scandella, Jensen and Hofer were denied by goalkeeper Lerg or their shots missed the opponent's goal. For Asiago, Matteo Tessari had the best chance, but he couldn't capitalize either. Shortly before the end of the third, Tauber on the one hand and Michael Henrich on the other caused a stir, but nothing changed in the result.

The third third began with a power play for HC Pustertal, which coach Kivelä's men took advantage of and took the lead for the first time. After a nice pass from Ling, Oberrauch hit the mark with a powerful shot after 41:42 minutes. A little later it was again the Bruneck striker and Asiago Presti who missed further chances to score before Vigilante was unable to capitalize on a rebound. In the final period, Asiago pushed for the equalizer again and took goalkeeper Lerg off the ice. But 20 seconds before the end, Jensen made everything clear with a shot into the empty space. After the 3:1 all the dams broke in the Leitner Solar Arena and after the final siren the HCP cracks celebrated their first win of the Supercup together with their fans.
