The most recent 0:3 at Klagenfurter AC was the 23rd EBEL game of the season for the Bolzano team, which means that just over half of the 44 regular season games have been played. Never since its participation in the EBEL has HCB Südtirol's yield been as meager as this year: The White Reds are bottom of the table, already seven points behind third-bottom and an impressive eleven points behind 6th place, which is important for the playoffs.

Lost 16 of 23 games

Of the 23 games so far, HCB has lost no less than 16, one of them in overtime and two in penalty shootouts. Of the 13 defeats in regular time, six were by just one goal difference. (Former) coach Curcio's team has only won seven of the 23 games so far, one of them in extra time.

Only 7 points from 12 away games

What is remarkable is the fact that HCB has only brought home just seven points from the twelve previous away games, thanks to one win in regular time (2:1 in Salzburg) and one in extra time (4:3 at Znojmo). and two defeats in penalty shootouts (7:8 in Graz and 4:5 in Villach). The remaining eight away games were all lost (in regular time).

The record at home is a lot better, although with five wins there were as many defeats within the regular 60 minutes of play and an additional defeat in stoppage time.

Recently only scored 9 goals in 7 games

HC Bozen won two of the seven matches in September, four of nine in October and only one of seven in “black November”. How dire the situation has become in the last few weeks is also demonstrated by the fact that the HCB cracks have only scored an extremely modest nine goals in the last seven games.

Trio Smith/Halmo/Petan has fallen off significantly

The latter is also reflected in the scorer rating. Until recently, the Bolzano trio A. Smith, Halmo and Petan were in the top ranks and competed for the lead with three Innsbruck legionnaires. Meanwhile, the two best people from Bolzano, Petan and Smith, have fallen back to 10th place and Halmo to 19th place. None of the three have contributed goals in the last month. The scoring successes of the three were 10 or 12 rounds ago. There was certainly some bad luck, as assist specialist Smith has been missing for 8 games, but that alone doesn't explain the lack of goals for the others.

Maybe the new coach Suikkanen will find a way to score more goals and points.
