This HCB South Tyrol loves the thrill

HCB Südtirol met HC Orli Znojmo on Tuesday evening on the fifth matchday of the Pick Round. The Czechs are a fearful opponent for the Foxes in the ice wave this year, as both direct duels in the regular round went to Znojmo. The Pokel protégés now wanted to change that.

And Bolzano got off to a very lively start in the ice wave in front of almost 2400 spectators. Nechvatal was able to defuse Bell's one-timer (3rd) in the follow-up, Insam (4th) missed after good preparatory work by Bernard. Then Foster had to go into the icebox for two minutes and the guests took advantage of the first power play mercilessly. Stach initially hit the puck against the crossbar, but Fiala used the rebound to take the lead 1-0 (7th).

Afterwards, both teams missed a few powerplay situations before Yellow Horn made it 2-0. He sank a powerful shot from the blue line into the far corner and this time used the power play (14th). Not much happened after that, it was only in the last minute of the game that Broda forced the Znojmo goalie to do something brilliant. In this phase, the Foxes operated with one more man on the ice.

Bolzano doesn't want to score again

In the middle third it went back and forth. In the 22nd minute, Stach forced HCB goalie Hübl to do a brilliant deed. Shortly afterwards, Spacek tried from the blue line before Pope tried from close range. Then Bell also got stuck with Nechvatal (24th), as did Insam and Saviano with the follow-up shot (29th). Znojmo then had a good phase, but Hübl was at his post when there were opportunities for Tomas with a shot from the Blues (33') and Spacek's one-timer (35').

In the 44th minute, in the final third, Saviano went around Znojmo's goal, then passed to Pope in the slot, but Nechvatal was there again. But six minutes later he couldn't do anything. Di Casmirro put the disc on for Reid, who only had to hold out the bat and reduce the score to 1:2. Now there was a lot of pepper in the Foxes' game again.

Nechvatal drives the HCB attackers crazy - but then has to give in

Just seconds after the goal, Foster and Palmieri could have equalized, but carelessly missed the good opportunities. Just as carelessly, Gander received a two-minute penalty for sticking, but Bozen survived unscathed. Then Flemming released a bullet from the blue line. The rebound landed at Pollastrone, but he didn't place it in the empty goal (55th). Gander also failed just a minute later with a one-timer against the outstanding Nechvatal.

One and a half minutes before the siren, Hübl left the ice. And the equalizer now fell: Pollastrone used the numerical superiority to make it 2-2 by deflecting a McMonagle hammer into an unsustainable position.

In extra time, Pollastrone had the best chance of scoring the winning goal, but came up short in the duel with Nechvatal. And because no one else managed to score, it went to a penalty shootout. There Brodie Reid wrapped up Bolzano's first home win against Znojmo this season.
