Dieter Knoll: “I begrudge Vienna the title”

The Foxes caused a sensation in the playoffs with some rousing performances. Only the clear 0:4 in the semi-final comparison with the Vienna Capitals leaves a downer. “But these games were all evenly matched. We simply lacked the luck that helped us against Linz in the semi-finals,” analyzes board member and sports director Dieter Knoll.

He sees one reason for the elimination against the Viennese in the ongoing bad luck with injuries: “With Ried, Palmieri and Ramoser, we were missing three important offensive players. But that shouldn't diminish the rest of the team. Everyone played with heart and passion, so I would like to thank each and every one of them. I would like to say a special thank you to the fans who were simply fantastic throughout the season. In any case, the Capitals deserve to reach the finals and I would begrudge them the championship title.”

“Pokel was never under discussion” So Knoll draws a positive conclusion to the season. Just looking at the performances in the pick round makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. “We played a very strong regular season, but then there was a huge drop in performance. However, I have to take that on my own account because I didn't promise the players a bonus for the intermediate round. I'll change that next year," said Knoll, who was then forced to act: "Either the coach or a few players had to leave. We decided on the second option. One simply didn't perform anymore, the other didn't agree with the coach's decisions. Pokel was never an issue for us and I think that was a good thing.”

Now the decision-maker at HCB is already looking ahead to next season. “We have had a great year. I think fans and sponsors also share this assessment with me. I am convinced that they will continue to be loyal to us and will enjoy a great team on the ice again in the fall,” concluded Knoll.

After the semi-final exit, there is still disappointment at HCB Südtirol. However, this does not cloud the view of what was, all in all, a very successful season. Club boss Dieter Knoll is particularly pleased about the ice hockey euphoria that has been sparked in Bolzano.
