Dolomites Cup: Schwenningen is the first finalist

After the opening victory the evening before in Brunico, the Wild Wings traveled with confidence to Neumarkt, the venue for all further tournament games. South Tyrolean coach Stefan Mair once again had to make do without Ryan Ramsay and Sean O'Connor. The former Bolzano native MacGregor Sharp made his debut with the DEL club. The Canadian also had the first real chance on the bat, but was denied by Tyler Plante. The Lorenskog goalie is also no stranger to Italian ice hockey, having played for Asiago in 2012/13. Afterwards, a fast-paced game developed, which was characterized by some tough moments. Lorenskog took advantage of the first high-profile opportunity and took the lead 13-1 in the 0th minute of the game. Mats Mathisen scored the Norwegians' debut goal at this year's DolomitenCup. The Mair troops then took the scepter into their hands and appeared dangerously in front of the enemy's defense several times. However, the cracks from Lorenskog scored again. This time it was Emil Froshaug who lost out to Wild Wings goalie Markus Janka.

Sharp signals the turnaround

In the second period it was the same picture: Schwenningen tried to take control of the game, but Lorenskog caused the excitement. For example, Wacey Rabbit hit the post from a tight angle. The absence of former Bolzano striker Kenny Corupe from the Scandinavians was never noticeable. In the final phase of the second third, however, the tide turned, as Schwenningen equalized to 30-2 within 2 seconds. First it was Sharp who reduced the deficit with his first goal for Schwenningen, then Stephan Wilhelm scored. Both teams went into the break with the score tied at 2-2.

In the last twenty minutes the two teams met on equal terms. Now, however, the Wild Wings had luck on their side. In the 49th minute of the game, Philipp Schlager hit the mark out of a commotion. Lorenskog reacted and put everything on one card, but the equalizer was no longer successful. Two seconds before the end, Daniel Hacker from Schwenningen finished the game with an empty-net goal. With the 4:2, the Germans landed their second win in the second game and thus secured their ticket to the final. Mats Trygg and MacGregor Sharp were named the best players of the match.

On Friday the opening match in the second tournament group will take place between Ambri Piotta and the Augsburger Panther. The game in the Würtarena starts at 20.30:XNUMX p.m.
