Dolomites Cup: Defending champion Zug again in the final

Two Swedish international strikers scored for the Swiss first division team to win 2-1 against Düsseldorfer EG on Saturday evening. The second day of the tournament began with a brilliant opening third, in which both teams really stepped on the accelerator. After just three minutes, John Henrion gave DEG the lead with a shot from close range. However, the reaction from central Switzerland did not take long to arrive and came in the form of a double blow from the two Swedish Olympians Viktor Stålberg and Carl Klingberg. First it was the 2013 Stanley Cup winner Stålberg who made it 1-1. Just before the third siren, Klingberg gave EVZ the lead for the first time with a shot from a tight angle.

After the restart, Düsseldorf had more of the game, but only rarely reached the Zug goal. The Swiss, for their part, always remained dangerous with quick counter-attacks and thus contributed to an exciting, hard-fought game.

In the final section, the traditional club from the Rhineland increased the pace again, but EVZ goalie Tobias Stephan and the crossbar when Ken Olimb finished proved to be insurmountable obstacles. In addition, towards the end Düsseldorf repeatedly weakened themselves through penalties and interrupted the flow of the game. Five minutes before the end, Henrion missed the opportunity to equalize. On the other side, Dominic Lammer missed the last chance of the game. However, the Zug team were able to get over this because they managed to save their narrow lead over time and qualify for the final for the second year in a row.

The final day begins at 16 p.m The eagerly awaited showdown for tournament victory between Augsburg and Zug takes place on Sunday at 20 p.m. Already in the afternoon (start: 16 p.m.) EBEL champion and local hero HC Bozen and Düsseldorf will face each other in the “small final”.
