Dolomites Cup: Vålerenga takes third place

The afternoon game in the WürthArena initially started at a moderate level. Both teams tried to play their game, but never really managed to establish themselves in front of the opponent's goal. While the Eisbären, who were slightly superior in the field, at least posed a hint of a goal threat, Marvin Cüpper remained almost unemployed in the Berlin box. His counterpart Joachim Svendsen had to reach behind him for the first time in the 24th minute, but James Sheppard's goal was disallowed due to goalkeeper interference.

The almost 800 fans in the Neumarkt ice stadium had to be patient until the first goal. This finally came in the 32nd minute - and that was a complete surprise for the first division club from Norway. Filip Gunnarsson placed the disc in the Berlin box as he followed up. At this point, Vålerenga was on the power play for the second time in the game. After conceding a goal, the DEL club finally took control and pushed for an equalizer from then on. Two and a half minutes before the end, the Eisbären finally escaped into overtime: Louis-Marc Aubry made it 1-1. Tobias Lindström becomes a penalty scare In the 3-3 extra time, the spectators were offered a whole series of good chances on both sides, but nothing changed in the result. So the decision had to come in a penalty shootout. This became a personal duel between Aubry and Tobias Lindström. While the Berliner scored twice, the Norwegian captain scored three times. Vålerenga was therefore determined to be the winner, the Eisbären had to settle for fourth place after their second 1-2 defeat within 24 hours. Dolomites Cup: Vålerenga takes third place

Vålerenga IF, Norway's most successful sports club, secured third place in the prestigious DolomitenCup with its first win in Neumarkt. The Oslo team won the small final against the Berlin Eisbären in a penalty shootout.
