Dolomitencup 2012: Lugano in the final against Iserlohn Roosters

The Black Wings Linz showed from the start that they wanted to scare the favorites, HC Lugano. The Upper Austrians repeatedly appeared dangerous in front of the Ticino goalkeeper Daniel Manzato, such as Martin Grabher-Meier in the third minute. Hnat Domenichelli had the best chance for Lugano in the opening minutes. There was a lot of applause from the numerous fans from Upper Austria in the 7th minute for a double chance from Curtis Murphy, once Murphy even hit the outside post. In the second third, HC Lugano came back onto the ice much more energetically and after just three minutes Sebastian Reuille reduced the score to 1:2. The game became really exciting again and in the 26th minute, former NHL star Ilkka Heikkinen actually scored the equalizer for HC Lugano. As a result, the HCL stars increased the pressure and scored the 31-3 lead through Daniel Steiner in the 2st minute. The Black Wings pushed for an equalizer, but Lugano always remained dangerous through counterattacks and so after 40 minutes it remained 3-2 for Lugano.

In the final third, the Ticino team once again set the pace: after just 44 seconds, Brett McLean increased the lead to 4-2 for HC Lugano. Despite the two-goal lead, the more than 600 spectators got their money's worth: both teams continued to offer an open exchange of blows at a high level. The next goals were correspondingly well played: Lorenz Kienzle whirled through the Linz defense in the 48th minute and increased the score to 5:2, and in the 53rd minute Jaroslav Bednar completed a wonderful combination play with Raffaelle Sannitz to make it 6:2. Dominik Schlumpf finally set the final point three minutes before the end of the game with 7:2.

HC Lugano will play in the final of the 2012 Dolomites Cup on Sunday evening against the Iserlohn Roosters from the DEL. The Black Wings Linz will play against Lorenskog IK for third place.
