DolomitesCup; The Kloten Flyers eliminate the German champions

In the fight for the second final place, the Adler Mannheim started like the fire department. After just 31 seconds, US defender Danny Richmond, who moved up, put the disc in the Flyers' goal for the first time. As a result, the Germans remained in control, although the absence of the injured superstar Glen Metropolit was never noticeable. Kloten, meanwhile, repeatedly weakened himself through unnecessary penalties. However, Mannheim was unable to capitalize on the numerical advantage. On the contrary: in the first “penalty killing”, Adler goalie Dennis Endras had to get behind him straight away. Dennis Hollenstein pushed the hard rubber disc over the line unhindered. 25 seconds later the first third was over.

Flyers defense holds tight In the second half of the game, Mannheim started off strong again, but now the Swiss defense was wide awake. The DEL champion's waves of attack repeatedly bounced off the Flyers' defensive bulwark. Mathieu Carle, Jochen Hecht and Jon Rheault failed in the power play against Stanley Cup winner Martin Gerber. For his part, Kloten managed to repeatedly launch relief attacks and thus create danger in front of the Adler's goal. This was also the case in the final minute of the second third, when Hollenstein was denied by Endras in a one-on-one. After the last break, Mannheim continued to have great difficulties in the power play. Even a one-and-a-half-minute powerplay didn't help the Kurpfälzers score a goal. On the other hand, the Kloten-Cracks did much better: Shortly after Nikolai Goc was given a five-minute penalty, Steve Kellenberger used a pass from Romano Lemm to make it 2-1. At this point 48 minutes had been played. Both teams then had the chance to strike on the power play. But neither Kloten nor Mannheim were able to capitalize on this. It wasn't until five minutes before the end that the Eagles were rewarded for their efforts. It was Ryan MacMurchy who reacted quickest after a face-off and gave Gerber the loss for the second time. Nevertheless, it wasn't enough for the German champions to go to overtime, because with 51 seconds left, another outnumbered game was their undoing. Mark Olver outwitted Endras with a shorthander and secured Kloten the celebrated semi-final victory.
