DolomitenCup: Lorenskog is in the “small final”

Both Olten and Lorenskog did everything they could to extend their stay at the DolomitenCup by one day. Both teams were committed to their work right from the start. The Scandinavians owned the initial phase, but the second division team from the canton of Solothurn had the better chances. Things became particularly dangerous when Tim Weber, outnumbered, rushed towards Lorenskog goalie Tyler Plante alone towards the end of the first period, but failed to put the puck in the net. So we went into the first break without any goals.

Four minutes after the restart, however, Olten broke the spell: Canadian Justin Feser scored in the power play. He was there after a rebound and pushed the puck over the line to make it 1-0. The Norwegians then tried to respond. They pushed for the equalizer with vehemence. When it came to scoring, however, the absence of last year's league top scorer and former HC Bozen crack Kenny Corupe was repeatedly noticeable. It was only in the penultimate minute of the second third that Thomas Bäumle had to admit defeat in the Olten goal - and this of all times when the EHC had the majority. Wacey Rabbit took advantage of a serious play error to rush towards the opponent's goal alone and place the hard rubber disc in the goal.

At the beginning of the final third, a boxing effort from Shayne Wiebe and Henrik Odegaard caused a stir. The Norwegian defender had to take the shower early with a game-time disciplinary penalty. A short time later, Freser missed his second goal. The EHC crack slammed the puck onto the crossbar in the majority. This was the only high-quality chance in this final phase, which was characterized by penalty minutes.

So the decision had to be made in a penalty shootout. There the Olten players showed nerves, while Fredrik Csisar and Simon Olsson scored on the other side. They secured Lorenskog's appearance in the third-place game on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Schwenninger Wild Wings and the Panthers from Augsburg will meet in the final from 20 p.m.
