EBEL: HCB Südtirol's 3-2 tremor victory in Innsbruck

The HCB Südtirol was able to defend its clean slate against the Haie from Innsbruck today. In the first of the last five decisive games in the regular season, the Füchse won 3-2 against their neighbors from Tyrol. It was almost a home game for Bolzano, as Tyrolean fans were in short supply, but over 200 fans from Bolzano took over the Innsbruck ice stadium and created a great atmosphere. As soon as they were on the ice, the Foxes showed that they really wanted to get the three points today. There were three big chances at the start of the third from Reid, Palmieri and Vause. The first goal was only a matter of time and it was Marco Insam who scored the opening goal in the power play with a one-timer. This goal seemed to shake up the Innsbruck team, as the game now became more balanced. Bozen became a little tamer and so it wasn't difficult for Spurgeon to get a rebound into Hübl's goal. Now Bozen picked up the pace again and again it was the fourth line that scored the guests' second goal. The goalscorer this time was Anton Bernard, who deservedly ended his goalless drought. The middle third remained goalless. Innsbruck's goalie Andy Chiodo was under constant fire, but the goal wouldn't fall. Not even when Bolzano had a double advantage when two Innsbruck players were languishing in the penalty box. Here Insam had the opportunity to score his second goal of the evening, but Chiodo was able to save.

Hübl saves the Foxes

The final third was a rollercoaster of emotions. Bolzano conserved its energy and tried to maintain the result, thereby straining the nerves of the fans traveling with them. The Foxes were unable to convert a third double advantage into a goal until Matt Pope finally scored the decisive goal. The same Pope who had to go into the cooler two minutes before the end of the game, took out Innsbruck's goalkeeper and scored the goal with Lammers. Innsbruck believed in their chance and continued to press on the visitors' goal. And would have almost scored the equalizer if it hadn't been for Big Hübl: Big mistake by McMonagle, which allowed Ulmer to appear alone in front of Hübl. Bolzano will travel to Fehervar and Vienna at the weekend to collect more points there.
