EBEL: Bozen had to admit defeat in the penalty shootout

Coach Tom Pokel today confirmed the team that brought Villach to its knees the day before. The only news: Peter Wunderer returned to the team, but David Civitarese had to take a seat in the stands. In the first third, Bolzano seemed tired and so it was the guests who set the tone. The Pokel team played harmlessly and was never dangerous, while Sapa narrowly missed the opening goal when Travis Gawryletz hit the puck on the post. Bolzano only had its first chance to score in the final minutes of the starting third, but Mark Santorelli hesitated for too long and left it unused. So after twenty minutes it remained a goalless draw.

In the middle third, the people of Bolzano came out of the locker room wide awake. First MacGregor Sharp narrowly missed the opening goal, then Dave Tomassoni made it 27.01-1 in the 0 minute. Five minutes later Sebastian Pichè had to go to the penalty box. Sapa took advantage of the numerical advantage and equalized 33.07-1 in the 1 with a goal from Adam Naglich. However, it was only a matter of time before the people of Bolzano took the lead again: in the 36th minute, Stefan Zisser, also in the majority (former Bolzano player Arpad Mihaly was in the penalty box), made it 2-1. The pass came from Rick Shofield, for Zisser it was the second goal in the second game in a row. 57 seconds later, however, Colton Yellow Horn brought the guests close again on the power play and made it 2-2.

The final third began with a cold shower for the Bolzano team, as after just two minutes the guests took the lead for the first time, even when they were outnumbered. Naglich played to Sarauer and he converted safely to make it 3-2. But Bozen didn't give up and equalized with a world-class goal from Kim Strömberg. The Bolzano striker started from his own defense, outplayed the entire Hungarian defense, including the goalkeeper, and scored to make it 3-3. A wonderful goal, 47.56 minutes were played. Both teams then had the chance to win the match, but the score remained 3-3.

In extra time, Beaudoin and Schofield missed two good scoring opportunities. Bolzano were also unable to take advantage of a power play and so the game went to a penalty shootout. Sikorcin defeated Hübl, while Bozen missed with Egger, Strömberg and Insam. Sapa won 3-2, the HCB received a consolation point for the rating.
