EBEL: HC Bozen does it in extra time

At the open-air spectacle on the “Platz der Republik” in downtown Ljubljana, HCB coach Mario Simioni once again offered the same line-up as on St. Stephen’s Day. The fresh snow provided an excellent backdrop. There were around 1000 spectators in the stands, including almost 120 traveling Bolzano fans.

The first third didn't go as planned for HCB Südtirol. At the beginning of the game, the people of Bolzano were superior, but then the home team got better and better into the game and even took the lead in the 9.20 minute thanks to Bishop's goal. Rodney and Cullen then had the chance to equalize, but had to miss their opportunities.

Bolzano reacts in the middle section During the third break, Simioni's team regrouped and returned to the ice transformed, at least in terms of concentration. The home team had the first chance, but Bishop missed his second goal of the day. As a result, the home team and the guests from South Tyrol each had to miss a power play situation. In the 33rd minute of the game, the people of Bolzano managed to equalize. After Laibach goalie Chiodi drove behind the goal, the puck jumped from the boards towards the goal, where Zanette stood perfectly and pushed the disc into the empty goal to make it 1-1.

In the final third, Laibach became dangerous again. Music and Hebar tried the power play, but Hübl remained confident. Hebar tried again a few minutes later, but his finish wasn't good enough when he was outnumbered 3-1. Bozen responded with Nesbitt and Schofield, but they too had to miss their chances. Shortly afterwards, De Simone tried a wrist shot from the right side, but Chiodo blocked it. Hübl also impressed with a brilliant save in the final minutes: after a shot from Ropret, the disc jumped to Hebar, who took the shot. However, Hübl was there. One minute before the end, De Simone hit the bar and after 60 minutes the score remained 1-1 and the match went into extra time.

Schofield scores The game was decided after just two minutes. Selan lost the puck at the blue line, Schofield grabbed it and drove alone towards Chiodo, who had to be beaten over his left shoulder. The Master Round is getting closer again for HC Bozen, who also beat the Drachen in the eighth meeting.
