EBEL: HCB Südtirol is knocked off the ice by Salzburg

The Bulls were able to compete in full in front of 3500 spectators in the Volksgarten, while the Foxes' Stefan Zisser returned to the team after serving a suspension (two match days). Nevertheless, Angelo Esposito was used in the fourth block and Zisser was not used.

Red Bull Salzburg started furiously and pushed HCB Südtirol deep into their third. With the advantage (Nicoletti was in the penalty box), Latusa and Raffl had two good opportunities (4th), which Hübl was able to destroy. Meckler was then denied by the White-Red goalkeeper. A little later, the Talferstädter goalie was unable to do anything when Andreas Nödl gave him the disadvantage after a poke (4.27). Previously, Trattnig and Hofer were stuck with the Pokel protégés' goalkeeper.

Even after that, the Mozartstadt team continued to press and almost made it 2-0 with Meckler and Milam (a shot against the post in the tenth minute), but they were unable to score. From the middle of the first third, Bozen got into better gear and had a good chance with Pichè, but the puck flew past the previously unemployed Brückler on the left side of the goal. Then the home team again with Komarek, but Hübl pulled out all the stops of his abilities. In the final phase, Meckler had another opportunity, but the puck didn't find its way into the net, to the delight of the around 300 Bolzano supporters who had traveled with him. Jackson's team remained in a deserved, narrow lead.

Open exchange of blows in the second third

HCB Südtirol started the second third furiously and took the reins in the early stages. Meanwhile, the Bulls withdrew and let the guests take control. Schofield had the first opportunity, but was unable to convert it. Afterwards, Bernard almost equalized, but he too got stuck to Brückler. Shortly afterwards, Salzburg's goalie had to admit defeat when he couldn't hold on to a shot by Eggers and Sharp was able to score (23.29). It was Sharp's third goal in the final series. Bozen continued to press, but the goal fell on the other side. Boivin passed to Raffl, who didn't need to be asked twice from a central position after 31.06 minutes and made it 2-1 for the home team.

The people of Talferstadt were by no means shocked, on the contrary. They met the Jackson team at eye level and were rewarded in the 35th minute when Insam was there to equalize after a Brückler mistake. After that, Esposito could have even made it 3-2 after a counterattack. But just a little later the White-Reds had to chase a deficit again. Pichè went into the cool box and after exactly five seconds in the power play, Kristler flicked the hard rubber disk from the turn into the net.

Salzburg closes the bag The South Tyrolean guests also kept up with Salzburg in the third third. The home team attacked, Bolzano went on the counterattack. When Kristler was given a 2+2 minute penalty for high stick, the Foxes should have equalized. Nicoletti didn't see more than one shot in the four minutes of power play. On the other side, Brophey could have closed the bag, but he missed alone in front of Hübl, who was outnumbered. Roe then tried, but he too got stuck on the visiting goalie.

Five minutes before the end, Salzburg made the decision when Brophey caught Hübl cold and made it 4-2. Now the die was cast. Afterwards, Roe, Boivin and Mühlstein (into the empty goal) made cosmetic results as they increased the score to 7:2.

After seven away wins in a row, the Foxes had to admit defeat again away from home, with Salzburg reducing the series to 1:2. On Friday evening, the Pokel team still has the next match puck available and can bring the EBEL trophy to Bozen.
