EBEL: The HCB “wasted” a 4-1 lead in Linz

Lebler had the first opportunity in game five of this exciting quarter-final series, but his shot was deflected in the Nicht-sorgen ice arena (4th). On the other side, Stefan Zisser did better, taking advantage of a mistake in the home team's setup and giving Ouzas the advantage with a half-high shot.

Linz shortened, but Bozen had the right answer

After the break, Keller immediately had a good opportunity to make it 4-0 - Ouzas was at his post. On the other hand, Linz scored again with Oullette, who hammered the disc precisely into the corner of the cross after a pass error by Talferstädter.

Linz was now the dominant team, Bozen could only react. Hisey tried it in the 26th minute directly after a face-off, but he couldn't overcome Hübl. Overall, the Foxes' backline looked quite solid.

After almost half an hour, Murphy had to go to the penalty box after being hit with the stick. And the MacAdam troops took advantage of this mercilessly. Nesbitt lost Ouzas for the fourth time in the power play and made the supposed preliminary decision.

Then the home team again with Lebler, but Hübl's leg protector was in his way. The middle third was finally ended around two minutes before the end due to a technical problem with a board, which meant that the final third would last 2.17:XNUMX minutes longer.

The Black Wings overturn the match

In the last part of the game, in which events were to accelerate, Linz was initially the more active team, but the Upper Austrians were denied a goal. In the 42nd minute, Anton Bernard had to go into the icebox, but the champions easily survived the home team's power play. However, when Bernard had to leave the ice for the second time within five minutes (this time because of a hook), Kozek took advantage of the moment to make it 2:4 (47th).

The goal really spurred Linz on and lo and behold, just under a minute later Hübl had to reach behind himself again. This time MacDonald gave him the loss with a slap shot. Within two minutes the home team had gotten back into the match.

And for Bolzano it was now very difficult. Moran even equalized in the 51st minute when he decisively deflected an Ulm shot. Now the dams broke in the No Worries Ice Arena, within less than four minutes the Black Wings had equalized a three-goal deficit and the stalemate was restored.

In the 56th minute, Moran could have been the hero of the evening. After he had already outplayed Hübl, he did not hit the empty goal. Two minutes before the end of regular time, captain Alexander Egger received a two-minute penalty for crosschecking. Linz took advantage of this mercilessly and scored 53 seconds before the end with Ulmer making it 5:4, which became the match winner. The HCB subsequently took Jaroslav Hübl off the ice, but that didn't change the Foxes' bitter defeat.

Linz can now make everything clear in the ice wave on Tuesday. To do this, the Black Wings need their first away win this season against HCB. The champions would also need a success abroad if they were to equalize the series in the ice wave on Tuesday and then play a seventh game in Upper Austria.
