EBEL: The foxes find their master in Graz

In the Liebenau ice rink in Graz, the Foxes had to make do without Sebastien Pichè on defense. Hannes Oberdörfer moved to the first line, Nicoletti formed the defensive network with Miglioranzi on the third line. The home team had to do without Guillaume Lefebvre, who was suspended for eight match days, and Francis Lemieux was also missing with a traumatic brain injury.

HC Bozen got off to a dream start. The Foxes struck ice-cold when they were outnumbered (Tomassoni was stewing in the cooler) and made it 1-0. Insam scored after some great interaction with Bernard. For Marco Insam it was the fourth goal of the current season.

Graz with teething problems

The Graz team had little success going forward. The 99ers acted nervously and erratically, but the Foxes also couldn't use some power play situations to their advantage. So Danny Sabourin spent a relatively peaceful evening. The game sputtered along without many highlights. In the 18th minute, Andreas Bernard tried from a distance and Gander, who was in the right position, used the rebound to make it 2-0 for the South Tyroleans. Graz scored 39 seconds before the third break. Rupert Strohmeier used a rebound after a counterattack and scored 1:2. For the young man from Graz it was his first ever goal in the EBEL.

The longer the game lasted, the better the Styrians got going. Graz initially survived two outnumbered situations unscathed before Strohmeier scored the equalizer after just under half an hour. But things got even better for the home team: First, ex-Milan player Ryan Kinasewich gave the 99ers the lead for the first time in this match (32.57) when he completed a counterattack in an exemplary manner after a substitution from Bolzano. A little later, Ganahl made it 4:2 (35.15) with a slap shot from the blue line. Shortly before the third break, Strömberg could have scored the next goal, but the attacker missed.

Bolzano was too harmless in the power play

The final third began with a period of pressure from the Foxes, but nothing significant came of it. So Insam tried a slap shot, but it was too central. Graz became more and more prone to mistakes, but seemed more confident again after a timeout from Coach Richter. In the 51st minute, Santorelli tried from distance, but Sabourin remained the winner.

In the final phase, the White-Reds played with one more man on the ice than the hosts for the sixth time, but again they didn't get the goal they had hoped for. Shortly before the end of regular time, the Graz team even managed to make it 5-2 through Tolsa. This meant that Bolzano's first defeat of the season was definitely certain. The Foxes already have the opportunity to erase their defeat in 48 hours - on Sunday Graz will be guests at the Eiswelle from 18.45 p.m....
