EBEL: Vause, Pollastrone and Broda make the HCB cheer

Both teams set a high pace right from the start in the Bolzano ice hockey temple. Initially, Villach had a slight advantage and had two opportunities with Santorelli (1st) and Mühlstein (5th). But Bozen, which had to make do without the suspended Pope and the injured Insam, was also dangerous. McMonagle tested Lamoureux from the blue line (3rd) before Saviano and DiCasmirro (8th) got stuck on the Villach goalie.

In the tenth minute, Broda tried a shot at the far corner, but Lamoureux was able to fend off the puck with his leg pads. Then Saviano and Bernard had a double chance (14th), but again Villach's number one was the last stop. The Carinthians had the last big chance of this first third, but Hübl once again surpassed himself with Verlic's shot.

Opportunities on both sides

The second third began with a chance for ex-Bolzano player Pance, but he shot over it. Then Verlic tried a backhand shot, but Hübl was again at his post. On the other side, DiCasmirro (26th) and Flemming (28th) tried it, but Lamoureux could not be overcome. Only 60 seconds later, Pance had the opportunity to take the lead, but Hübl remained the winner. In the 32nd minute, Vause did better on the other side. Lamoureux let an Egger hammer from the blue line ricochet and Bozen's number 19 snapped the disc over the line.

Less than a minute later, Gander could have made it 2-0, but Villach's goalie was wide awake. Then Hübl stood out with a great opportunity for Petrik (34th). Two minutes before the end of the middle third, Platzer had to leave the ice for two minutes and the Pokel protégés took advantage of that. Pollastrone grabbed the puck, danced past two defenders and flicked the puck into the far corner. The 2-0 lead went into the locker room 21 seconds later.

Hübl closes the doors, Broda closes the bag

Bolzano controlled the game in the final third, but could have made it 45-3 with Foster in the 0th minute. Lamoureux steered the disc past the goal. Five minutes later, Hübl had to show all his class as he sat on the ground and somehow fended off a Brunner hammer. For this he was vehemently celebrated by the Bozner Kurve.

In the 53rd minute, Bozen's goalie was once again the focus when he first defused a shot and was then literally run over by an attacker. But number 24 was able to continue. Joel Broda immediately closed the bag when he pushed the puck under the crossbar to make it 3-0. Afterwards, Bolzano cleverly defended its lead over time.

At the end, the spectators saw the Foxes off to the dressing room with a standing ovation - and Pance, who helped the HCB win the title in 2013/14 and now plays for Villach - went over to the Bolzano fans and applauded them. A nice gesture from the Slovenian.
