EIHC: The next goal came too late – Blue Team lost to Japan

The Blue team, which had to do without numerous supporters (including Hannes Oberdörfer, Alex Gellert, Anton Bernard, Markus Gander and Giovanni Morini, canceled their participation), played well with Japan and had their chances, but was in front of the goal not cold-snout enough. Simon Kostner, Michele Marchetti and Diego Kostner each left top-class players behind in the first and second thirds. On the other hand, the Asians did better: After 25 minutes, the Japanese reacted quickly to a defensive mistake by the “Azzurri” and took the lead through Makuru Furuhashi. Just a minute later, it was Furuhashi again who gave Marco De Filippo Roia the loss with a blue liner. The Blue team's reaction came too late: Alex Frei only restored the connection 64 seconds before the end. The defeat could no longer be averted.
