A dream debut for Dynamo Pardubice

The first-ever meeting between Augsburg and Pardubice gave spectators a foretaste of everyday life in Europe's two top leagues. Both teams offered fast-paced ice hockey paired with a healthy mix of toughness, with the Czechs slightly setting the tone throughout the entire game.

Panther returnee Dennis Endras, who recently stood between the posts in Mannheim for years, kept his team from falling behind for a long time. Robert Ricka and Matej Paulovic were initially unlucky, but in the 17th minute the bell rang in Augsburg's box: the busy Ricka was successful with a slightly deflected shot. It was the goal that gave Dynamo a 1-0 half-time lead.

After the first break, Augsburg tried to turn things around and thus move towards an eighth final appearance, but Pardubice kept closing things down at the back. Adam Payerl in the power play and Vincent Saponari missed the best chances. On the other hand, the Eastern Europeans, who were in considerable early form, were repeatedly dangerous with relief attacks. One of these counterattacks ended with a real click of the tongue when Lukas Radil danced delicately through the Augsburg defense and could only be stopped in a one-on-one with Endras.

In the final section, the personal duel between Radil and Endras went into the next rounds. First, the long-time German national goalkeeper was able to shine with a brilliant save, but in the 45th minute the Czech striker celebrated. He used a precise pass from Tomas Zohoma to make it 2-0. After that, the soup was de facto served, as Augsburg was no longer able to firmly establish itself in the opponent's third. At the end of the 60 minutes of play, Dynamo Pardubice emerged as deserved winners and, at the same time, as finalists for the first time in tournament history. Who will follow Pardubice into the final? The players and the accompanying fans from the Czech Republic will now take a closer look on Saturday evening when their final opponents are determined in the Würt Arena. The German champions Eisbären Berlin are asking the top Swiss club EHC Biel-Bienne to rematch last year's semi-final duel. At that time, Biel won 2-0 and later won the coveted trophy. The team around ex-NHL crack Gaëtan Haas wants to repeat this coup. The Eisbären, for their part, are fighting against a taboo: in the Dolomites Cup they have always been eliminated in the semi-finals in two of their participations.
