The team from the South Tyrolean plateau defeated the reigning Italian champions Asiago 5-0 in front of their home crowd. Despite the confident victory, coach Rob Wilson's boys have to be on their guard. “We are happy that we started the series so well. But tomorrow is a new day. Asiago are Italian champions and have many experienced players who can handle any situation. On Thursday we had more energy than our opponents, but that was only the first game. In order to make it to the final perfect, we have to go to Asiago with the same attitude as on Thursday and continue as before in the coming games,” explains the Rittner trainer.

On Thursday, former NHL goalie Chris Mason once again demonstrated his qualities. “Sure, Mason is an asset to our team. But Asiago's goalkeeper also performed well despite his young age. Of course Mason deserves a compliment, but I prefer to praise the team as a group. “Everyone contributed to the victory,” concluded Wilson.
