Fatal final third costs the HCB their victory

HCB coach Tom Pokel offered the 42-year-old center in the first attack block alongside Nick Palmieri and Marc-Olivier Vallerand. The three technicians harmonized straight away as if they had been playing together for some time. Already in the fourth minute, Metropolit made his first clear mark when he let an opponent get out and put the advanced Daniel Glira in the spotlight. He smashed the disc into the net to make it 1-0. Less than four minutes later the Znojmo goal rang again: Daniel Frank took advantage of a mistake by the opposing defense and slotted in dry. After that, the Czechs got better and better into the game and missed the goal for the first time in the 15th minute with a shot from the post by David Bartos. A few minutes later, former Vipiteno striker Adam Hughesman was able to do this, converting a gross lack of attention from the Bolzano defense to make it 1-2.

In the second third, the Foxes took control again and determined the game from then on. However, Denny Kearney and Vallerand missed from a promising position. On the other side, goalie Marcel Melichercik thwarted the guests' few attempts to relieve the pressure.

At the end of the second period there were chances on both sides almost every second. And so it continued in the final third. First, Melichercik was able to defuse a shot from Andre Lakos. A short time later he had to reach behind himself when he couldn't control a shot and Tomas Pilhal was dusted. Now there was hardly any sign of Metropolitan and Co. anymore. Znojmo, on the other hand, pushed hard on the accelerator and repeatedly caused danger in front of the white and red housing. Three and a half minutes before the end, last year's finalist was finally rewarded: Marek Spacek successfully completed a quick counterattack and put Znojmo in the lead for the first time - much to the delight of around 40 Eastern European fans who had traveled with them. A little later they were able to celebrate the away win, which was hardly thought possible after the first half of the game.

The Foxes have the chance to make amends in their next home game against their Tyrolean rivals from Innsbruck on Sunday.

Fatal final third costs the HCB their victory

HCB Südtirol Alperia slipped to 6th place in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga table. The Foxes were in the lead for a long time against Orli Znojmo, but still lost 2-3 in the end. At least the 2.630 fans in the ice wave were able to look forward to a promising debut from NHL warrior Glen Metropolit.
