DolomitenCup: Augsburg becomes the record winner

The final game offered the 1.300 spectators everything an ice hockey heart could desire: incredible speed, chances on both sides and the necessary toughness ensured a spectacle worthy of the final from the start. At first Zug had the better chances, but as the game continued the Panthers became stronger and stronger. In the 17th minute, Matt White, who was extremely strong today, rewarded the Swabians with a goal to make it 1-0. Two seconds before the end, Adam Payerl showed himself similarly hardened in front of EVZ goalie Sandro Aeschlimann and increased the score to 2-0 with a powerful shot into the bullseye.

The Swiss, who made it to the semi-finals last season, were visibly shocked by Augsburg's double blow. In the middle section, EVZ left an almost two-minute double power play unused. When the Panthers had overcome this pressure phase, they immediately rushed back to the opponent's goal. After two good chances from Thomas Holzmann, David Stieler demonstrated his cleverness. He outwitted Aeschlimann with a quick start and a shot from a tight angle. 3-0 for the outsider from Augsburg! Pure emotions in the final third It was only in the last section that the EV Zug seemed to gradually awaken. The Swiss now pushed vehemently into the opposing third. In their best phase, Augsburg struck ice cold: Andrew Leblanc completed a counterattack with a low shot, Aeschlimann was beaten and the final was de facto decided. Although Yannick Zehnder was able to beat Augsburg goalkeeper Olivier Roy for the first time just three minutes later, the Panthers' victory was no longer in danger in the remaining nine minutes. On the contrary, when Zug took the goalie off the ice for a sixth skater, Daniel Schmölz scored again. With his empty net goal he made the final score 5:1. The final point was provided by Hans Detsch and Johann Morant, who had a boxing match shortly before the end and brought the Würt Arena to a boil one last time this summer.

This year's DolomitenCup is history. At the end of the 13th edition of the tournament, the Augsburg Panthers took revenge on EV Zug for their final defeat last year and won the coveted trophy for the fourth time. The DEL team defeated the Swiss 5-1.
