Finale furious: Asiago snatches the Scudetto away from Ritten

The starting position was clear: Asiago had to win the last game of the four-player tournament for the “Scudetto” after regular time in order to move past Buam in the table and secure the cup. Even just one point would have been enough for Ritten to win the sixth Italian championship title in the club's history. In the end - like last year - the Stellati had the better end, winning 6-2 and thus winning the 1th pot in the club's history.

The match in the venerable Odegar Stadium offered the 600 spectators a lot. Among other things, there was a very controversial scene that occurred in the 14th minute. Asiago's Stefano Giliati shot, the puck bounced from one post to the other and probably crossed the line in between. The referees watched this action for a few minutes in the video review and ultimately decided there was no goal - that was probably the wrong decision. Smith holds up outstandingly, but... Ritten was lucky because the home team's lead was deserved. Asiago took the game, but kept biting its teeth against Buam's goalie - Jake Smith. On the other side, Ritten, which had to do without the injured top striker Alex Frei on Saturday, took the lead with its first power play situation: Dylan Di Perna's slap shot found its way into the goal (36th).

But just 20 seconds before the end of the period there was a cold shower: Jake Smith, of all people, who had been outstanding until then, made a mistake by trying to stop a puck behind the goal, but misjudged it and Michele Marchetti presented the equalizer on a silver platter. Asiago was inspired by this goal and scored the winning goal in the final period: Daniel Mantenuto gave a shot from Stefano Marchetti the decisive change of direction and the puck fidgeted in the net. As a result, Ritten was no longer able to react and the Asiago victory was perfect.
