Foxes struggle to win against Klagenfurt after a penalty shootout

HCB Südtirol had to make do without captain Alexander Egger, who was missing due to a muscle injury ( SportNews reported ). The Foxes fans were able to see Kim Strömberg again, who played a key role in Bolzano's EBEL title win but moved to Klagenfurt in the summer.

The match started very lively, the guests were initially the better team. The Carinthians repeatedly appeared dangerously in front of Hübl, but he could not be overcome. Even a shot from Wharton's blue line couldn't put the Bolzano goalie in trouble.

But Bozen's De Simone had the best chance after a counterattack, but his shot landed on Tuokkola's leg pads (5th). In the middle third the Foxes exerted more pressure and played more purposefully. Klagenfurt, on the other hand, relied on quick counterattacks and hoped for a mistake from the Bolzano defense team. The one with De Simone, Insam and Schofield proved to be the Talferstädter's most dangerous attacking block. De Simone missed from close range while Reichel hit the post after 29 minutes. In the 37th minute, Ban rounded the Bozen goal, but Hübl was on the post. The second third also passed without a goal.

In the final third, Keller was too stubborn in the 44th minute when he tried to do it on his own instead of serving Cullen, who was running with him. Just three minutes later, the Bolzano attacker with number 88 tried it alone again, but again his solo was not successful.

In the 54th minute, Bernard's breakaway shot was deflected dangerously off the skate of one of the KAC defenders for Tuokkola, but the puck never went into the goal, just as it did two minutes later when Geier was unable to take advantage of Hofer's carelessness.

Even after 60 minutes it remained a goalless draw and therefore the Italian and Austrian record champions went into extra time. The first minute was underway when Keller fed Schofield, who hit the edge of the goal. 120 seconds later, Pance tried a long-range shot that posed considerable problems for Tuokkola. It was the last excitement before the winner had to be determined in the penalty shootout. Rick Schofield closed the bag there.

Bolzano wasn't able to shine in terms of play on Sunday. But with two wins within 48 hours against the two Carinthian clubs Villach and Klagenfurt, the Simioni squad was able to drive away all ghosts of crisis (for the time being).
