The Continental Cup is over for Ritten

Ritten coach Riku-Petteri Lehtonen gave regular goalkeeper Thomas Tragust a breather and used his backup Hannes Treibenreif. Additionally, defender Tobias Brighenti returned to the lineup after suffering from stomach flu.

Zagreb was clearly the more active team at the beginning and goalie Trebenreif distinguished himself with several brilliant feats. The EBEL representative stayed on the trigger and was rewarded in the 6th minute. Antonin Manavian scored from the blue line to make it 1-0. In the 11th minute, the Rittners showed a sign of life for the first time with Alex Frei, but the Kalterer failed twice because of Zagreb goalie Vilim Rosandic. Kevin Fink then tried it too, but he also got stuck on the Croatian goalkeeper. A little later it was Fink again who missed a huge chance from almost two meters. So after 20 minutes the Fox team remained in a narrow 1-0 lead.

The Italian champions could have equalized right at the beginning of the middle third, but Markus Spinell only hit the edge of the goal. For the “Buam” it was the third post meeting in the tournament. Ritten got into the game better now, but in the 31st minute Hannes Treibenreif had to thwart a great chance from David Brine. The Rittner goalkeeper was the focus again shortly afterwards when he brilliantly blocked a shot from John Armstrong. Even after two thirds, only one goal separated the two teams.

Decision in the final third In the last part of the game, the Croatian EBEL representative closed the bag. In the 43rd minute, John Armstrong fed his strike partner Yann Sauve, who made it 2-0. The decision was made eleven minutes before the final siren when Bruno Ficur increased the score to 3-0. But Ritten showed morale and a short time later, with Tobias Brighenti in the lead, the score was reduced to 1:3. For the new signing from HC Bozen it was the first goal in the Italian champions' uniform. But nothing changed in the result.

Goalie Hannes Tretreibenreif was rightly named the Rittner's best player. He said after the game:

The Continental Cup is over for Ritten

The semi-final of the Continental Cup in Belfast ended in defeat for Ritten. On Saturday afternoon, the “Buam” had to admit defeat to the Croatian champions Medvescak Zagreb in the third game.
