Dress rehearsal was a success: Blue Team defeated Slovenia

Selection coach Stefan Mair had to make do at the friendly match in Bled not only without the injured Frigo, but also without Morini and Larkin, who will only join the team in Norway. Cloutier and Bernard took turns in goal.

In the first third, the home team, driven by 764-time NHL player Anze Kopitar, clearly set the tone, but the Italian defense around Cloutier initially held tight. It wasn't until the 27th minute that the Los Angeles Kings star was able to break the spell: he scored to make it 1-0. In the final third, Slovenia pushed for a decision, but a foul on Anton Bernard brought Italy back into the game. Diego Kostner converted the penalty to make it 1-1. So both teams had to go into extra time. This was less than ten seconds old when Simon Kostner rounded the Slovenian goal and finally scored the winning goal for Italy.

Stefan Mair: “Important for morale”

"Our goalkeepers held up outstandingly. In the second half of the game we got better overall and put on a good performance. This win is particularly important for morale," concluded Coach Mair. He and his team are now returning to the training camp in Brixen, from where they will travel on to Oslo. The first tournament game against France is scheduled there on Thursday.
