Graz wasn't worth the trip for the Foxes

Last Sunday a long streak of success was broken. After six wins en suite, HCB Südtirol Alperia had to admit defeat for the first time since September 23rd. The Foxes, whose contract with Andrew Yogan was terminated on Monday, wanted to get back to winning ways 48 hours after the defeat against Dornbirn in Graz.

However, Coach Pokel had to regroup his core lines due to Yogan's departure: He ordered Captain Egger into the attack in line with Insam and Marchetti. Oleksuk took Yogan's place in the first strike formation with Reid e Frigo, the remaining two blocks were Gander-Bernard-Vallerand and Kearney-Palmieri-Root. In the starting third, the HCB, who generated a lot of pressure in Styria, were unable to use a power play to their advantage. Root missed the best opportunity, but he didn't put the puck in the home team's box from a promising position. In the early stages of the second period, Reid appeared dangerous in front of Dahm, but failed to score. Eight minutes and 20 seconds before the end of the middle third, a plexiglass pane broke. The players were sent to the dressing rooms and the match resumed after an interruption of around 20 minutes.

And as soon as the match started again, Graz scored the opening goal. After a mistake by the Bolzano defense in building up the game, Pöck took a shot and Kyle Beach deflected his shot to make it 1-0. And the Styrians were able to celebrate again two and a half minutes later when Ograjensek made it 2-0 with a precise shot into the top corner after a nice combination via McLean and Woger.

In the final third, both teams played courageously forward. Reid missed 12 minutes before the end on the side of Bolzano, while Pöck ruined the possible preliminary decision for Graz. Shortly afterwards, Dahm stood out in two tussles in front of his goal - Vallerand, Palmieri and Kearney were unable to beat the Graz goalie. With five minutes left, the Foxes were unlucky when Insam hit the hard rubber disc against the post. Immediately, Setzinger only met aluminum.

The decision was made two and a half minutes before the end when Melichercik left the ice and Setzinger placed the puck in the Foxes' empty goal. In the last seconds of the game, Pirmann almost made it 4-0 for the hosts.
