After an uneventful first third in which both teams had almost no chances to score, Salzburg captain Matthias Trattnig scored with a precise shot right at the start of the middle period. At this point, Alex Egger was languishing in the penalty box. A little later, Hannes Oberdörfer had to leave the ice for two minutes - and the home team's second goal promptly followed. This time it was Zdenek Kutlak who didn't give Hübl a chance. In the 34th minute, a penalty was called against Salzburg and Pokel sent a sixth field player onto the ice. The lightning-fast reaction paid off, as Brad Flemming made it 1-2 just moments later with a beautiful wrist shot.

At the beginning of the final third, Salzburg player Sterling hit the goal post, after which the HCB took the reins and pushed for the equalizer. In the end, however, the Foxes remained far too harmless. Salzburg managed to save their narrow lead over time and secure the full points.
