HC Lugano wins Dolomites Cup 2012 - Videos

The Iserlohn Roosters got off to a better start: Jeff Giuliano missed the first opportunity in the 4th minute after a nice pass from Michael Wolf. On the other hand, the young HCL crack Dario Simion failed against Iserlohn goalkeeper Sebastien Caron. Lugano goalkeeper Michael Flückiger also made his first appearance in the 9th minute with a shot from Iserlohn's Matt Tomassoni. Four minutes before the end of the third, Iserlohn's top scorer Michael Wolf appeared dangerously in front of the HCL goalie, but he knew how to assert himself again. Towards the end of the third, Lugano increased the pressure, but missed two great chances to score with Petteri Nummelin and Thomas Rüfenacht. So after twenty minutes it remained a goalless draw.

The middle third began with a period of pressure from HC Lugano, due to a power play (foul by Iserlohn's Derek Peltier). In the 21st minute, Brett McLean used the power play to give the Swiss a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Thomas Rüfenacht could have benefited from a carelessness on the part of the Iserlohn backline and made it 2-0, but failed because of Flückiger. In the 24th minute, Julien Vauclair tested Roosters goalie Caron with a hard shot. Shortly afterwards, Leandro Profico shot just over the goal; he suddenly appeared alone in front of the Iserlohn goal. The 2-0 for Lugano was now in the air and came in the 30th minute. After another penalty against Derek Peltier, the money-blacks' power play only lasted nine (!) seconds until Hnat Domenichelli scored to make it 2-0. Despite the two-goal lead, Lugano continued to have more of the game, with Jaroslav Bednar hitting the outside post in the 34th minute. Three minutes before the end of the third, Alex Nikiforuk suddenly forced the HCL gaolie into a rebound, but Robert Hock's slap shot landed right in Flückiger's catching hand. Shortly afterwards, Michael Wolf also had a great chance, but Flückiger was there again in time - this time with the stick. After this more offensive final phase from the Roosters, we went into the final third break.

Lugano also set the pace in the final third and took a 3-0 lead after less than two minutes. Hnat Domenichelli scored a remarkable goal on a pass from Daniel Steiner. As a result, Lugano controlled the game and Iserlohn hardly had any significant chances. Four minutes before the end of the game, Lugano captain Julien Vauclair scored the final point for a 4-0 victory.
