HCB has the better storm than Salzburg - Znojmo is now last

Red Bull Salzburg traveled to Bolzano with an impressive tally of 121 goals. Salzburg also demonstrated their offensive power in the ice wave. Salzburg hit the goal three times. But because the HCB scored more often, the guests came away empty-handed. The Foxes, on the other hand, celebrated a well-deserved victory after one of the best performances of the season.

Frank puts Bozen in the lead

The game started competitively but disjointed. With the first really good opportunity, the HCB lead fell. Travis Oleksuk set up Daniel Frank perfectly and he took the lead at the second attempt (9th). As a result, Angelo Micelli had Bolzano's second goal in sight, but Salzburg goalie Starkbaum reacted well. Towards the end of the first third the guests got better. At first Pekka Tuokkola was able to hold on to the narrow lead, but in the final minute the Finn was also powerless in the Bolzano goal. After a quick counterattack, Viveiros equalized – 1:1.

Sointu scores, Micelli goal doesn't count

In the second third, HCB Südtirol Alperia was once again in charge. First Frank was denied by Starkbaum, then SalzburgerSchremp received the first penalty of the game. Bolzano took advantage of the majority and took the lead again through Matias Sointu (29th). Two minutes later the puck was in the Salzburg goal again. Micelli's goal was rightly disallowed - the hand was in play. It wasn't Angelo Micelli's day because shortly afterwards he hit the bar and received a two-minute penalty. The guests in the form of Raymond promptly took advantage of this – 2:2.

Tomassoni scores beautifully to win

In the last third, things happened quickly. Hughes was able to immediately equalize Anton Bernard's lead. As a result, Stajnoch failed because of Tuokkola and on the other side Starkbaum had to intervene against Petan. The decisive scene occurred three minutes before the end. After a face-off, Matt Tomassoni pulled away from the blue line and the puck crashed right into the corner - the winning goal (57th). Salzburg threw everything forward in the final minutes, but Tuokkola and Markus Gander's face saved the victory.

Bolzano gives up the Red Lantern

With the deserved victory over Salzburg, the Foxes were finally able to hand over the Red Lantern. The new bottom team is Znojmo, who were beaten 3-6 at home by Linz.

On Wednesday evening Salzburg was a guest at HCB Alperia Südtirol. The guests have the best attack in the league, but Daniel Frank & Co. went one better and showed a top performance. The result was the first victory in the new year 2018.
