HCB Südtirol: A tailor-made start

The game started very badly for the Foxes: After seven minutes, McMonagle had to go to the penalty box, five seconds later the bell rang in the Bolzano box when Kozek got to the puck while standing alone and Hübl lost with a well-placed shot. A bitter setback, one would think. But it was not like that. Because the people of Bolzano continued to play unimpressed and presented themselves as extremely dangerous, especially in quick counter-attacks.

Just under a minute after falling behind, Gander sent his colleague Saviano on his way, who danced his way through the Linz defense and gave goalie Ouzas no chance. Now the Foxes really got going and showed their qualities in combination play - but not least a stroke of genius from Palmieri paved the way for the Pokel team to take the lead. The former NHL player served Foster with a dream pass from blue line to blue line, thereby overcoming the entire Linz defense, which is why Foster had no problems and made it 2-1 alone in front of Ouzas. And to make the strong first third perfect, Flemming launched an attack from his own goal shortly before the end, after a short solo pass to Reid, who had an eye for the freely positioned Broda - and the goal siren rang again. After this brilliant opening third, Bozen continued its line in the second half, but the Linzers gradually became stronger and often laid siege to Hübl's defense, but without becoming seriously dangerous. But even though the HCB only rarely got in front of the Linz goal in the rest of the season, they ensured that the Upper Austrians never really got into the game, particularly through their physical and intensive running style. In the end, the victory was more than deserved - and the brilliant start to the pick round was perfect.
