HCB Südtirol: The top game against Villach takes place in the ice wave

Exactly seven days after their last meeting, HCB Südtirol and Villacher SV face each other again. The league newcomer from the Talferstadt will try to take revenge for the 2:4 defeat in Carinthia in the top game on Friday evening. The lead in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League is also at stake. At the moment, Bozen is in first place with 17 points, but VSV follows in second place, just one point behind. The match against Villach is the first of three home games in a row. Sapa Fehervar will be visiting Bolzano on Saturday and Olimpija Ljubljana on Tuesday. The HCB will attack the coming games with a broad chest, having recently scored five out of a possible eight points in four away games. Only in Villach did Egger and Co. fail to win a point.

The Austrians are relying on the best offense in the entire league. Of the 47 goals scored, a large proportion were attributed to John Hughes and Derek Ryan. They lead the EBEL scorers with 17 goals and 28 assists in 12 games. However, Villach has not yet been able to convince on foreign ice. The last away win was on September 20th (6:3 in Graz). Most recently it was a 2:4 at Sapa Fehervar.

Günther Hell: “We need the support of the fans”

Günther Hell played a decisive role in HCB's recent away win in Laibach. However, the Bolzano backup has already turned his attention to the encounter with Villach: “The table is completely uninteresting. We just have to concentrate on implementing Coach Pokel's instructions. Villach's first two attack lines have enormous potential and need to be kept in check. We have to push ourselves to the limit again, otherwise we have no chance.” The long-time HCB player is hoping for a well-filled ice wave: “We need the loud support of our fans. The home games so far have shown that we work with particular motivation in front of well-filled spectator stands. That will also be the case on Friday against Villach.”

Tom Pokel can rely on Slovenian striker Ziga Pance for the first time in the home game against the rivals from Carinthia. In addition, defender Matt Tomassoni is available to him again. Only John Esposito will still be missing. Meanwhile, Villach is still worried about the appearances of Cole Jarrett, Scott Hotman and Marco Pewal.
