Heart-stopping finale: Polar bears in the final of the Dolomites Cup

In 2019 and 2021, the Eisbären Berlin always had to be content with the small final of the Dolomites Cup. Now the top German club is aiming for its first title in the 16th edition of the prestigious preparation trophy. There was a spectacular 3-2 win against EHC Biel-Bienne on Saturday evening, thanks to which Serge Aubin's troops moved into the final and met the Czech tournament newcomers Dynamo Pardubice on Sunday from 20 p.m.

Biel, which had to do without former NHL player Damien Brunner, got off to a better start in Saturday's semifinals. In the 4th minute, Berlin goalie Tobias Ancicka's chest protection was put to the test when Ramon Tanner shot completely alone from a few meters. A great opportunity and at the same time a wake-up call for the Eisbären, who from then on got better and better into the game and took the lead: Kevin Clark fought for the goal behind the goal and served Manuel Wiederer, who shoveled the biscuit under the crossbar - 1-0 (11. ).

The Berliners, who had to do without star player Marcel Noebels, continued to set the tone and pushed for a 2-0 lead. First, Biel's new goalie Harri Säteri impressively showed with a big save why he became Olympic champion and world champion with Finland this year. With the score 0-2 shortly before the end of the period, the 32-year-old Scandinavian was powerless: a shot from birthday boy Giovanni Fiore was deflected decisively and hit the net. After a short video study, the referees awarded the goal (39th). Biel comes back strong, but then... There was a lot of fire in the final section. This had primarily to do with the fact that Etienne Froidevaux quickly scored the 1-2 goal for Biel (44th) after world-class preparatory work from Viktor Lööv. The Swiss then stepped on the accelerator and put Berlin goalie Ancicka under constant fire. Shortly before the end, the bell rang: Mike Künzle, in the majority, played sharply into the middle, where Tino Kessler held out the ladle at the right moment, equalizing the score to 2-2. Renewal? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. Because just 75 seconds later, Berlin's Frank Mauer stole the puck from Biel in the build-up game and, with all his routine, completed the score to make it 3-2. The numerous Eisbären fans were over the moon – and Berlin is in the final.

While the DEL champion is fighting to win the tournament, Biel cannot defend its title this year and has to make do with the small final.
