Today the “Azzurri” actually celebrated staying in the I. Division, Group A after the 3-1 win against Japan. But then Slovenia defeated South Korea with 5-1 goals and Austria surprisingly lost 0-1 to Poland in the evening. This resulted in the following table situation. Before the last match day, Slovenia leads with 9 points, ahead of Austria with 8, South Korea with 7 and Italy and Poland with 6 points each. All five teams can, at least theoretically, still dream of promotion, because this year two teams could possibly even rise to the world elite. But what has to happen so that Italy can still rise? Two circumstances must occur. Firstly, Italy has to finish the World Cup in Katowice in second place and secondly, the “Azzurri” have to hope that two and not just one team are relegated from the A World Cup in Russia. But one after anonther.

Italy has to win against South Korea and hope for a win for Slovenia The “Azzurri” can no longer win the World Cup in Katowice, but second place is still possible. To achieve this, they must absolutely beat South Korea in the regular 13 minutes of play on Friday at 60 p.m. And in the second match at 16.30:60 p.m. we hope that Slovenia, also in 12 minutes of play (i.e. not after extra time or in a penalty shootout), beats Austria. Then the Slovenians would win the World Cup with 9 points, ahead of Italy with 9. Poland could also get 3 points (with a win in the last game against Japan), but would remain behind Italy because the “Azzurri” had that won the direct game 1-XNUMX.

Hungary could free up a second promotion spot Slovenia would then be guaranteed to be promoted, because the bottom of the table in preliminary round A at the World Cup in Russia is certain to be relegated. There will probably be a team between Denmark, Latvia and Kazakhstan. The other teams in this preliminary round are Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Norway and Switzerland. Germany and France, among others, are playing in the preliminary round B. However, these two countries (Cologne and Paris) are organizing the A-WM 2017 and therefore cannot be relegated. If one of these two countries were to end up in last place in the table, then the penultimate nation in the two groups with the worse record would have to be relegated. If, on the other hand, both Germany and France are relegated, only the last person in preliminary round B will be relegated and only the winner of the first division A, i.e. Slovenia, will be promoted. However, if, for example, the Hungarians, who are the weakest on paper, were to come last, then they would have to be relegated and a second promotion place would become available. The remaining teams in this preliminary round, Canada, Finland, USA, Slovakia and Belarus, will probably have nothing to do with relegation. It all sounds quite complicated, but it isn't.
