Peter Draisaitl: Coach of the Bratislava Capitals. © svatostraka.com

“You have to cope with two deaths first”

It has only been 5 months since Boris Sadecky, striker of the Bratislava Capitals, suddenly collapsed on the ice in Dornbirn without any external influence and died 4 days later. Just a few hours later, the club from the Slovakian capital, which has been taking part in the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL) since the 2020/21 season, suffered the next stroke of fate: Managing Director Dusan Pasek Jr. couldn't cope with the player's death and took his own life out of self-blame. Peter Draisaitl was right in the middle.

The 56-year-old former German international was the coach of Capitals Bratislava at the time. In the following interview, the father of NHL superstar Leon Draisaitl looks back on the bad moments on the ice and in the days afterwards and tells what the Slovaks' return to the coming ICEHL season is like.
