4:3 home win: Bolzano keeps Znojmo at bay

HCB coach Kai Suikkanen, who not only had to do without Mike Blunden, but also Dan Catenacci, who was ill at short notice, and the ailing Andrew Crescenzi, saw his team get off to a nervous start. The people of Bolzano incorporated a lot of impurities into their game and gave the guests several opportunities through their own mistakes in the build-up to the game. Because goalkeeper Leland Irving was wide awake from the start, the score initially remained 0-0. Bolzano itself initially lacked the ability to score - once the home team got into a shooting position, Znojmo keeper Lassila was the last stop.

After a good eight and a half minutes, HCB goalkeeper Irving had to reach behind himself for the first time: Znojmo's stretch left Stefano Marchetti standing there with a physical illusion and hit a shot into the near corner for a deserved 1-0 lead. Even after that, the Czechs initially seemed livelier and came dangerously close to making it 2-0 a few times - only Irving and inaccurate shots prevented anything worse from happening.

Findlay and Insam equalize twice After the poor opening third, the second period began just as the approximately 2.000 spectators in the Eiswelle liked it: Alex Petan made an exemplary pass to Brett Findlay, who only had to push the puck into the empty goal - 1:1. It was the 7th goal of the season for Bolzano's top scorer, who played not only on the first line but also on the third line today (Massimo Carozza was again not used).

While the HCB left two top players with Insam and Deluca after the equalizer, Znojmo was ice cold on the other side: Kalus gave Irving the advantage with a shot into the far corner and brought the Czechs back in front. However, it didn't take long for Bozen to respond again: Insam ideally deflected a Campbell shot from the blue line and equalized the encounter again.

Afterwards the game calmed down a bit before the HCB came very close to making it 3-2 twice shortly before the end of the third: First, a sharp Petan cross was deflected onto the post, then Insam showed nerves standing alone in front of Znojmo goalkeeper Lassila.

Petan and Brace shoot the Foxes into luck In the final third, the people of Bolzano took control of the game more and more and took the lead for the first time thanks to Alex Petan: The Canadian, who played his 100th competitive game in the HCB jersey today, was successful with a well-placed shot into the far corner. With the lead behind them, Bozen acted more confidently and created further good opportunities. Riley Brace finally converted one of them into Bolzano's fourth goal: The winger directed a brilliant Petan pass into the net and increased the score to 4-2 with his first EBEL goal.

A little later, Znojmo came close to 3:4 through Kalus, but it was no longer enough for the guests to do more than score: In the final minutes, the HCB cleverly defended their narrow lead and safely made it 4:3 over time.

Thanks to the home win - it was the third success from the last four games - the HCB increased the gap to seventh place to 9 points. Things continue for the Foxes in the EBEL on Sunday: one day before Christmas Eve, Bolzano plays host to bottom team Zagreb.

4:3 home win: Bolzano keeps Znojmo at bay

Next “threesome” for HCB Südtirol Alperia: On Friday evening, the Foxes had the upper hand against Orli Znojmo with 4:3 and thus celebrated an important success in the fight for the top six places. The victory over the Czechs was the third HCB victory from the last four EBEL games.
