All good things come in threes: debut, comeback and victory

There was positive news at HC Bozen even before the match in the Klagenfurt town hall. On the one hand, the longed-for debut of newcomer Karl Stollery was imminent, and on the other hand, the comeback of Leland Irving. The Canadian had been represented by Justin Fazio and Andreas Bernard in recent months, but is now fit again and returned to the Bolzano goal against KAC. Bernard had to give way and the Foxes “borrowed” 20-year-old Jakob Rabanser from Vipiteno as a backup goalie. The third good news was that Mike Halmo was back in the HCB roster after serving his suspension. Halmo's physicality was sorely missed in the defeats against Fehervar and Salzburg.

After a short period of getting used to it in South Tyrol, Stollery made an inconspicuous ICE debut. Speaking of new signings: Before Stollery signed, the HCB was also interested in Paul Postma, who also had NHL experience. But the 31-year-old turned down the South Tyroleans, signed with the KAC instead and faced Anton Bernard & Co. as a competitor on Tuesday. This time Daniel Frank, who finished completely free in the slot after a shot from Domenic Alberga, was successful. The tide turned in the middle third when the hosts were the dominant team. Johannes Bischofberger, who skillfully deflected Thomas Vallant's blueliner, quickly made it 2:3 (26th). The final third wasn't a thriller, the KAC was too harmless for that. Only a one-timer from Sticha, which the Foxes defense collectively blocked, did there appear to be a hint of a goal threat (54'). On the Bolzano side, Halmo missed the best opportunity when, after a nice move, he was denied by the strong parrying Madlender (46').
