“Big Win” in Graz: HCB can plan for the pick round

Compared to the game against Zagreb, Kai Suikkanen made some changes to the lineup: Leland Irving played again in place of Jakob Smith, and in defense Daniel Glira took the place of Jordan Rowley, who was eliminated before the game (see own report) . Because Mike Blunden was back in the game after his injury, Daniel Frank and Viktor Schweitzer were not used.

In the first few minutes, the “Foxes” were able to establish themselves in the attacking third several times. However, the champions did not have any significant chances to score. Nevertheless, HCB was the better team in the starting phase. Things only became really dangerous in the 9th minute when Brett Findlay hit the post from a central position. Shortly afterwards, the guests deservedly took the lead: Andrew Crescenzi won a pass to Daniel Glira, who set up for Matthew Mackenzie, who gave Thomas Höneckl the advantage for the first time with a powerful direct shot. The goal served as a wake-up call for the hosts, as Oleksuk & Co. then took the reins. Dwight King's equalizer in the 13th minute was not undeserved.

Immediately after the restart, Riley Brace had a great chance to put his team in front again: However, the Canadian was unable to capitalize on a solo effort as desired. A little later, Mike Blunden did better: Following Brett Findlay's preparatory work, he caught Höneckl between the pads with a seemingly harmless shot. The 99ers' back man didn't cut a good figure. Unlike Irving, who made the team second in the table desperate with numerous saves. Irving holds on for the win In the last part of the game, the hosts stepped on the gas. Time and time again, Kai Suikkanen's team was restricted in their own third, but the champions withstood the pressure. Offensively, however, the Red and Whites repeatedly created small pinpricks with quick counterattacks. However, Petan and Miceli were unable to ensure the early decision. In the end it wasn't necessary because the Austrians couldn't find a way past Irving until the end.

The HCB is almost in the pick round. Suikkanen's team still needs six points from the last four games in order to remain mathematically stable.
