Picture-book debut: Wolves triumph in Bratislava

By joining the cross-border ICE, the Wolves have opened a new chapter in their club history - and thus further fueled the existing ice hockey euphoria in the Pustertal. Before the HCP fans can live it out in the new Intercable Arena, a little patience is required. The black and yellow will play the first four games of the season away from home. The first of these took place on Friday in Bratislava against the Capitals – and ended with a much celebrated 3-2 away win. At the same time, HC Bozen defeated Orli Znojmo in the ice wave. The narrow but deserved success of the Pusterers is even more important given the absences. Coach Luciano Basile was able to rely on Shane Hanna, who was recently in question, but he had to do without the ailing Ivan Deluca and Ivan Althuber. Brad Morrison, who will probably make his HCP debut in Villach on September 24th, was also missing. Even without their star player, the Wolves proved that they have the quality to survive in this league. The attack is convincing In the 10.055 World Cup stadium, which had a capacity of 2011 spectators, the league newcomer impressed with fast ice hockey, great effort and action worth seeing. Above all, Johan Harju, Jakob Stukel and Matthias Mantinger got the Caps into big trouble. They were the assets in the HCP construct, which was much better in offensive play than in defense: too often goalie Tomas Sholl, who didn't make the most confident impression, but at the same time made numerous brilliant saves, was let down. The spaces provided were large and the shooting opportunities were many. Basile has to turn these adjustment screws. Overall, however, the positive outweighed the negatives – and of course the joy of the victory. The highlights of the game Less than five minutes have been played and Bratislava is already in the lead: Lukas Skvarek escapes after a face-off and serves Michal Mrazik, who brings the puck to the middle, where Sholl can only defend it forward. Denis Hudec is in the right place and slides into the empty goal (4th). The guests tried hard, even had a little more of the game, but were unable to create any compelling chances to score. Mantinger, coming from the penalty box, awards the biggest one. The second third begins with a bang: Jasse icons penetrates the attacking third on the right side, lets two defenders out with a dream pass and sees Johan Harju put a wrist shot into the corner from the slot (22nd). The Wolves are then close to making it 2-1 – again thanks to the strong Mantinger. However, this succeeds on the other side: From an impossible position, David Buc shoots the hard rubber across Sholl's goal area, whose blade directs the puck into his own goal (32nd). The American then made up for his mistake by brilliantly parrying a shot from Nikolai Zherdev. He was lucky when the Russian only hit the post. The Wolves, who have more of the game at this point, do not admit defeat - and recently equalize through Emil Kristensen. The Dane overcomes Connor LaCouvee in the Capitals goal with a precise wrist shot (35th) – 2:2 after 40 minutes. At the start of the final third, the hats were on fire several times in front of the HCP goal. The Slovaks are pushing for the equalizer, but are unable to beat Sholl despite several great chances (including Tor Immo and James Arniel missed from promising positions). Almost out of nowhere, the score is 3-2 for Raphael Andergassen & Co.: Harju wins a face-off in the offensive zone, Hanna walks all alone into the dangerous zone and surprises LaCouvee with a Sunday shot from an acute angle (51st) - the decision. Picture-book debut: Wolves triumph in Bratislava

Fans had been looking forward to this day for months: HC Pustertal finally made its eagerly awaited debut in the ICE Hockey League. This was successful in every respect.
