Sporty and private: Angelo Miceli is on cloud nine

It's the natural course of things in ice hockey, and therefore also at HC Bozen. A North American player comes here, spends a season, maybe two, in some cases he stays a little longer. But at some point he will move away again, either to another league or back to his Canadian or American homeland. With Angelo Miceli, this natural course of things has been suspended for once. The Canadian not only feels at home in Bozen in terms of ice hockey, but has also become happy in his private life.

Miceli found his true love in South Tyrol with his girlfriend Gerda from Kaltern. “I proposed to her in November. We will get married in Kaltern in 2024 and would like to build a life here,” says Miceli. “Gerda is the love of my life. She even chose a job where she was always free in the summer so that we could travel to Canada together. That means a lot to me.”

This private moment of glory also seems to give the attacker sporting wings. Miceli has been playing in top form for weeks, his nimble hands have scored five times in the last seven games, most recently he scored the decisive goal against Vienna to make it 4-3. “At the moment things are just going well. “I’m actually playing like I always do, it’s just that the puck is finding me really good at the moment,” smiles the 28-year-old from Montreal. His brother Girolamo, who paid Angelo a visit over New Year's Eve, was also happy about it. “He was impressed by the Bolzano fans, especially when they shouted my name after a goal. There’s nothing like this in North America.”

The “Calabria Sniper” Speaking of family: Miceli's grandparents come from Calabria and Sicily, which is why the Italian-Canadian also speaks Italian fluently. “I still want to learn German, also with a view to the future,” said the 28-year-old, who has already netted eleven times this year and has his sights set on his personal Bolzano record (18 stalls). Because of this combination of goal threat and family Italian past, the winger is often referred to by fans as the “Calabria Sniper”.

Miceli is now one of the longest-serving players in the Foxes team. “Ang” came to Bolzano in autumn 2017 and has never left since. He only recently played his 300th match for the Talferstadt team and is also an Italian national player. “I feel right at home in Bolzano,” says Miceli, who never gave a thought to changing clubs during this time. “We are a tight-knit group.” Angelo Miceli The winger is convinced that the team can achieve great things this year. “We have enormous depth in the squad and can play with four lines in every match. The group is also very tight-knit and we all get along really well. That's a big advantage."

Is Bolzano ready for the title? This begs the question: Can the Foxes win the championship? “There’s still a long way to go,” says Miceli. But he also emphasizes: “From what I see every day in training and at games, I can say: we can actually only hurt ourselves.”

The Foxes are already in action on Friday evening, then the away game against Linz is on the agenda at 19.15 p.m. This is the only Bolzano match this weekend. Meanwhile, HC Pustertal will face Vienna away on Saturday at 19.15:XNUMX p.m.
