Bozen's concrete defense holds: Big win at the KAC

The Foxes won narrowly, but not undeservedly, 1-0 in Klagenfurt on Tuesday evening. Luca Frigo scored the gold goal in the 8th minute, but the match winner was once again Leland Irving, who celebrated his 5th shutout of the season and defused a total of 33 shots. Not to forget, of course, the performance of Irving's front men, who were extremely strong defensively and often caused the KAC offense, which sometimes seemed unimaginative, to despair. Thanks to the success, the HCB jumped back into the top 5 in the table and thus into the play-off places.

Frigo's gold strike The first third began with a situation where the team from Bolzano had the advantage, but it almost caused more damage than good: Klagenfurt's Patrick Harand grabbed the puck after the Foxes were careless and stormed towards Leland Irving alone, but the HCB goalie reacted brilliantly. On the other side, Bozen took the lead somewhat surprisingly with their first shot on goal: after a wonderful pass from Colton Hargrove, Luca Frigo shot from a very unpromising position - and celebrated when the deflected shot landed in the goal. 1:0 for the HCB!

Klagenfurt's reaction was not long in coming. The Carinthians now besieged the Bolzano goal for a few minutes, but always found their master in Irving. A picture that did not change in the second section. The KAC determined the game, the tactically well-adjusted HCB defended cleverly. And if things got tough at some point (like when Matthew Neal finished after 38 minutes), Irving was there.

Little changed in the course of the game in the final third. The only difference: the KAC became less creative by the minute and, so to speak, despaired of the Bolzano concrete defense. That's why the Foxes also caused danger here and there with a few relief attacks, with Dan Catenacci having the best opportunity with a strong solo. When the HCB survived a 2-minute outnumbered situation unscathed in the final phase, it was clear: the victory was wrapped up in a dry towel.
