The Bolzano fighter's heart is again not enough

The HCB had to admit defeat to last year's semi-final opponent from Vienna 3:6 on Friday evening and thus suffered their seventh defeat in the ninth intermediate round game. While the capital city secured first place, the Foxes slipped to sixth place one game day before the start of the playoffs.

The game in front of 2.600 spectators actually started promisingly for the Foxes, with a power play in the starting phase. But with the majority, disaster was already on the horizon: Kelsey Tessier gave the Caps the lead in the 4th minute with a shorthander. Just two minutes later, Sondre Olden made it 2-0. The two shots on the side of his catching hand were too much for the HCB goalie and he gave up his spot for Jake Smith. But the Bolzano backup also had to quickly reach behind him twice. First Riley Holzapfel gave him the loss from a tight angle, then Chris DeSousa poked the target under him. The 4-0 was only recognized after Vienna demanded video evidence. In the power play, Marco Insam rewarded the rebellion with a precise shot into the top corner. Although Tessier restored the old distance a little later, the advanced Markus Nordlund brought the HCB back into the game before the second break. At the latest after Carozza, who was once again deployed as a defender, reduced the score to 47:3 with his first, longed-for EBEL goal in the 5th minute, the game was really on fire again. Supported by their own followers, the Foxes now pushed for connection. But this didn't work - on the contrary: last year's Bozen champion player DeSousa, of all people, made the decision seven minutes before the end. The 6:3 was also the final score of this varied game towards the end. Finally, Graz awaits The white and red cracks now have no time to come to terms with this defeat. On Saturday we head towards Graz, where the intermediate round will conclude on Sunday (17.30 p.m.). While Bolzano can regain fifth place in the table, the second-placed Styrians just need to regain their self-confidence before the playoffs. The playoff pick takes place immediately after the last match day. It will be interesting to see which of the best-placed teams will choose the reigning champions as their quarter-final opponents.
