The next stab in the Bruneck ice hockey heart

Unlike the 2:3 in Veneto two weeks ago, HC Pustertal was able to get at least one point against Asiago this time, but nobody on the Rienzufer can be satisfied with that. The black and yellow lost to Asiago 2:3 in overtime and thus missed out on a pre-playoff place. After a starting third that was disappointing in all respects, at the end of which they were behind 1-2, the Wolves reared up - driven by 1800 spectators, but continued to act erratically and at times without a concept on the offensive. Dante Hannoun sent both teams into overtime with his goal to make it 2-2, but then Asiago's double goalscorer Troy Rutkowski scored sudden death. The match winner was celebrated by the loud Asiago supporters after the final whistle, while the Bruneck fans left the arena disappointed.

After the lackluster win on Saturday against Vorarlberg HC Pustertal is therefore unable to find the much-needed consistency of results. A real leader and close cohesion on the ice did not stand out this Tuesday either. The new additions Johan Harju and Nick Plastino provide a small ray of hope. They fit in well on their debut and showed promising approaches. But they too now have to take the next step forward. After a Roy shot bounced off, he lifted the disc into the net with a backhand to make it 2-2. Plastino's miss HCP newcomer Nick Plastino has the supposed winning goal 5 minutes before the end, but his shot from an almost perfect position just misses the goal. Ouch, that hurts Asiago strikes in overtime! After Moncada hit the post, the advanced Rutkowski was in the right place. He scores the effortless sudden death goal (63rd). HC Pustertal continues on Friday with the important away game against table neighbors Ljubljana; HC Bozen, which is not playing today, will only get back into the action on Sunday in Salzburg.

Two derby defeats against HC Bozen and now also the second defeat against arch-rivals Asiago – the fans of HC Pustertal are going through tough times. It's not just the results that are worrying, but primarily the Wolves' performances.
